Who founded Yendy?
Yendy was founded in 2020 by British/Ghanaian entrepreneur, Julian Boaitey.
Why was Yendy created?
“My siblings and I grew up using Africa’s most powerful and nutrient-dense superfoods on our skin: Shea Butter, Moringa and Baobab Oils. African black soap - the works. When I hit my teens, acne, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots plagued my skin. Making me very feel very insecure and embarrassed. I wanted to create a brand that celebrated these incredible superfoods that helped me and my siblings. At the same time I’m passionate about bridging the gap between small-scale female farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, and a global beauty industry that has exploited them for decades"
“After years of selling bulk raw ingredients sourced directly from small-scale farms in Northern Ghana, I wanted to take it one step further and help others with their skin concerns too. Fast forward to today, we’ve been able to help hundreds of people look good, feel good, and do good.” - Julian, Founder/CEO
What does Yendy mean?
Yendy is named after a district in Northern Ghana (Yendi) which is approximately 99km from where we source our Yendy Approved ™ Ingredients.
What is the vision for Yendy?
The vision is two-fold. We want Yendy to be a global, trusted company where our customers and community can come and find natural, sustainable, honest formulas that are effective in the battle against whatever skin concern they may be dealing with. We also want our small-scale female farming partners to be paid a fair price and have a better quality of life for the ingredients that they source, harvest, and produce for us.
How is Yendy different from other beauty brands?
Yendy Approved ™ African Superfood ingredients allows us to take a unique approach in everything that we do. Our supply chain is traceable from farm to bottle and this is as important to us as the products actually working to tackle your skin concerns. By pairing these ingredients with active and scientific ones, we’ve found a way formulate products that not only do wonders for your skin but are also better for people and the planet.
What is Yendy Approved ™?
For an ingredient to achieve a Yendy Approved ™ stamp it means that our team has sourced the raw ingredient from one of our small-scale female farming partners; paid a premium for the ingredient; and ensured that the working conditions are favourable and without involving any child labour. Where we’re unable to source the ingredient ourselves, we’ve built a rigorous vetting system to ensure that the ingredient meets all of the above requirements.
How do you track your supply chain?
We have feet on the ground both here in the UK (where we’re based) and in Northern Ghana (where we look out for, source and harvest Yendy Approved ™ ingredients). This allows us to trace the journey and shorten the chain wherever possible, ensuring that most of the money involved goes back into the pockets of the farmers.
Do you own a farm?
We don’t own a own farm, yet 👀
