Benefits of Niacinamide
Niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide, is a form of vitamin B3. It is found in many foods including meat, fish, milk, eggs, green vegetables, and cereals but can also be implemented into supplements and skin care products. Niacinamide is required for the function of fats and sugars in the body and to maintain healthy cells. Niacin is converted to niacinamide when it is taken in amounts greater than what is needed by the body. Niacinamide is used a lot in skin care/ therapy as it is a type of protein that keeps skin firm and healthy by building and repairing keratin within the skin. It helps your skin create a fat-based barrier known as a ceramide that locks in moisture in the skin, beneficial for all skin types even if you have eczema or mature skin. There are many benefits of niacinamide not only including the lipid barrier that locks in moisture but it can also minimize the redness and blotchiness on the skin left from eczema and acne conditions. By locking in moisture, it also regulates oil production of the skin so that the oil producing glands do not go into overdrive. It is also a known to protect from UV rays from the sun as well as reducing fine lines and wrinkles that comes from aging. Niacinamide may be used alongside other active ingredients for optimal results. You may be able to get more out of your niacinamide serum by using it alongside products that contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is said to increase product absorption.
